Scripture:
Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.”
Haggai 1:5-7

Spiritual neglect often starts subtly, one missed prayer, one quiet compromise, one more day without the Word. Before long, life feels hollow, and we wonder where God went. In Haggai 1, God lovingly rebukes His people who returned from exile yet forgot Him while rebuilding their own lives. They built homes, planted crops, and earned money, but nothing seemed to satisfy. Why? Because God's house lay in ruins while they focused only on themselves.
“Consider your ways,” God says. It's not just a call to reflect, it's a call to realign.
God doesn’t demand perfection; He desires priority. When we seek His kingdom first (Matthew 6:33), everything else finds its proper place. But when we make ourselves the centre, life leaks purpose, like wages in a bag with holes.
This is not a message of condemnation, but an invitation. God called His people to return, rebuild, and remember. And when they obeyed, He promised, “I am with you” (Haggai 1:13).
Maybe you’ve been feeling dry, unfulfilled, or stuck. The Holy Spirit may be whispering the same words to you today: “Consider your ways.” Real growth comes when we pause to reflect and choose to put God back at the centre.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for the times I’ve placed my plans above Yours. I confess that I’ve been busy doing life my way, while neglecting Your presence and Your call. Help me to consider my ways and realign my heart with Your will. Stir up a hunger in me for Your Word, for prayer, and for obedience. I don’t want to labour in vain, I want to build with You, for You, and by Your strength. Be the centre of everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Scripture:
In what area of my life have I been putting God second or last?
What changes do I need to make to rebuild my spiritual altar?
