Scripture

"Be still, and know that I am God."

— Psalm 46:10 (ESV)

whisper

There's a difference between hearing and listening. We hear noise all day long from traffic, notifications, conversations, and music. But listening requires something more. It requires stillness. Attention. The willingness to be quiet long enough to actually receive.

We're so accustomed to filling every silence. We pray, then immediately move on to the next task. We ask God for guidance, then drown out His voice with our own plans and noise. We say we want to hear from Him, but we rarely create space to actually listen.

Silence feels uncomfortable at first. In the quiet, our anxieties surface. Our to-do lists scream for attention. The emptiness feels exposed. But it's in that very discomfort that transformation begins. Silence isn't the absence of something; it's the presence of God, unfiltered and undistracted.

Spiritual solitude doesn't mean isolation. It means intentionally stepping away from the noise to listen for the voice that matters most. It's choosing to sit in silence, not because you have nothing to say, but because you've said enough. Now it's time to listen.

Start with just five minutes. No phone. No music. No agenda. Just you and God. You might hear nothing at first. That's okay. Keep showing up. Keep listening. His voice is gentle, easily drowned out by our hurried lives. But for those who learn to be still, His whispers become clear.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for filling every moment with noise. I confess I'm better at talking than listening, better at asking than waiting for Your answer. Teach me the discipline of silence. Help me sit in Your presence without rushing, without filling the space with my own words. Quiet my anxious heart so I can hear Your gentle whisper. In the stillness, meet me. Amen.
