Who Is Jesus? Is He Really God?

Is Jesus real, Christians

Many people around the world have asked this timeless question: Who is Jesus? Is He just a historical figure, a prophet, a good teacher, or is He truly God? For Christians, Jesus Christ is more than a name or a story in the Bible; He is the Son of God, Saviour of the world, and the way to eternal life. This blog explores who Jesus truly is, based on Scripture, prophecy, and the fulfilment of truth.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. He is believed to be the Son of God, born of a virgin named Mary, through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18-23). His birth was not an accident but the fulfilment of ancient prophecies spoken hundreds of years before His arrival.

Isaiah 7:14 prophesied:

Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”

Immanuel means "God with us", revealing Jesus as God in the flesh. This is prophecy fulfilled.

Prophecies and Fulfilment: Evidence of Jesus as the Messiah

One of the most compelling proofs of Jesus' divine identity lies in the fulfilment of Old Testament prophecies. The Bible contains over 300 messianic prophecies, specific predictions made hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus. These aren’t vague or general; they are detailed, time-stamped promises that only one person in history has ever fulfilled, Jesus Christ.

Let’s explore a few significant examples.

  1. His Birthplace — Bethlehem

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel…” — Micah 5:2

Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem fulfilled this prophecy precisely, even though Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth. The Roman census led them to travel to Bethlehem at just the right time—God orchestrated every detail.

  1. His Lineage — From the House of David

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch…” — Jeremiah 23:5

Jesus came from the royal lineage of King David, as detailed in the genealogies found in Matthew 1 and Luke 3. This was essential for the legitimacy of His claim as Messiah, the rightful King.

  1. His Suffering and Crucifixion — A Picture of the Cross

“He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities...” — Isaiah 53:5

Isaiah 53 is often called the “Gospel in the Old Testament.” Written over 700 years before Jesus’ birth, it accurately describes the suffering, rejection, and atoning death of the Messiah. The references to being "pierced" and "oppressed" mirror the crucifixion in stunning detail, long before crucifixion was even practised by the Romans.

  1. His Resurrection — Victory Over the Grave

“You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.” — Psalm 16:10

This psalm, written by David, prophetically speaks of the resurrection. Unlike any other religious figure, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating sin and death and proving He was who He claimed to be—God in the flesh.

Why These Fulfilments Matter

These prophecies show us that Jesus' life wasn't a coincidence; it was divinely orchestrated. The mathematical probability of one person fulfilling even just eight of these prophecies is virtually impossible (estimated at 1 in 10^17). And yet, Jesus fulfilled hundreds.

Each prophecy is like a divine signature, a heavenly confirmation that Jesus is indeed the Messiah, the promised Saviour, and the Son of the Living God.

The Trinity Explained

Understanding Jesus also means understanding the Trinity: one God in three persons—Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. While the word “Trinity” doesn’t appear in the Bible, the concept is seen throughout Scripture.

In Matthew 3:16-17, during Jesus' baptism, we see:

  • Jesus being baptised

  • The Holy Spirit descended like a dove.

  • The Father’s voice from heaven saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

This moment shows the distinct presence of all three persons of the Trinity, yet they are one in essence and purpose.

Jesus is the only way

Is Jesus the Only Way?

In today’s world of many beliefs and worldviews. This is called the new age, or so many believe and say that there are many ways. I want to say this is not true. Jesus said in John 14:6:

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This is not exclusion, it is a divine invitation. Jesus offers the only bridge between a holy God and a broken world. He didn’t come to start a religion but to restore a relationship. He is the only way to God and the only way to eternal life.

His Birth, Death and Resurrection

Jesus was born in humble surroundings, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, taught with authority, and modelled love and truth. His death on the cross was not a defeat but a divine design by God to pay the price for our sins and reconcile humanity to God.

Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving His power over sin and death. His resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith (1 Corinthians 15:17). Without it, our faith is in vain. But because He lives, we have hope, purpose, and eternal life.

By His death on the cross, we are reconciled to God and realigned to God's eternal purpose. No man on earth has lived on earth who died and rose after three days. Jesus is proof of this, and the truth is that He lives on and will come back again for us.

Final Thoughts: So, Is Jesus Really God?

Yes—Jesus is truly God. He is fully divine, fully human, and the perfect expression of God’s love to humanity. Knowing Jesus personally transforms lives, renews hearts, and anchors us in eternal hope.

If you’re searching for truth, peace, and meaning, Jesus is the answer. Draw near to Him today, not just as a figure of history, but as the living Saviour and Lord of your life. That through Him, you have eternal life and enjoy peace like never before.
