Living by faith is more than a Sunday confession; it is a daily decision. Every believer is called not just to believe in God, but to walk with Him in trust, obedience, and dependence, even when the path ahead is unclear. This is something we all struggle with as Christians, especially when we all love certainty. A scripture we are all familiar with.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
Faith is not the absence of fear or uncertainty; it is choosing to trust God in the midst of them. Your struggles may not go away instantly, but even when doubt arises, we choose to turn to God and trust His word over our fear. Here’s how you can live by faith daily, one step at a time.
What Does It Mean to Live by Faith?
To live by faith means relying on God’s Word rather than circumstances, emotions, or human understanding. It is a lifestyle of trusting God’s character, promises, and guidance, even when you don’t see immediate results.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” — Hebrews 11:1
Faith grows as we learn to surrender control and trust God’s direction. Faith also grows when we remember the things God has done for us in time past.
How to Live by Faith
1. Start Each Day with God
Living by faith begins with a daily connection to God through prayer and His Word. The God you know is the God you can trust.
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3
Simple daily practices:
Pray before starting your day. Learn to put God first literally.
Read a portion of Scripture daily. God can be found and known through His word. You would better understand His character and see a track record of His works in His word.
Ask God for guidance and strength. You do have all the questions answered. There is a God who can lead you and show you the way.
Even a few intentional moments can shape your entire day.
2. Trust God’s Word Over Your Feelings
Feelings change, but God’s Word remains constant. Trusting your feelings over God is like choosing uncertainty over stability and consistency.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105
When fear, doubt, or anxiety arises, choose to stand on Scripture instead of your emotions.
3. Obey God One Step at a Time
A story is said of a man who lost His father and felt lost. God spoke to him, instructing him to leave the land he was familiar with for an uncertain land. He wasn't given a location; he was asked to trust God. The question was whether this man would be bold enough to trust the voice he heard. And yes, he did. This is the story of Abraham in the Bible.
Faith is often revealed through obedience in small steps. The proof that you trust God is your obedience to His leading and guidance. Your confidence is that with every step you take, He is on your side.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
You don’t need the whole picture, just obedience for today.
4. Pray Continually Throughout the Day
Living by faith means staying connected to God, not just during set prayer times.
“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Talk to God about:
Decisions
Worries
Gratitude
Challenges
Prayer strengthens your faith and keeps your focus on God.
5. Choose Faith in Difficult Moments
Faith is tested during trials, but those moments deepen trust.
“Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials… because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2–3
Choosing faith in hardship allows God to grow and refine you. And He refines you to become a better version of yourself.
6. Surround Yourself with Faith-Building Influences
Your environment influences your faith.
“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” — Romans 10:17
Build your faith by:
Reading Scripture
Listening to worship music
Engaging with other believers
Reading faith-filled content
7. Reflect on God’s Faithfulness
Remembering past victories strengthens present faith.
“Remember the wonders He has done.” — Psalm 105:5
Keep a journal of answered prayers and God’s faithfulness to remind yourself that He is trustworthy.
A Prayer to Live by Faith Daily
Heavenly Father, teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. Help me trust You even when I don’t understand the path ahead. Strengthen my heart to rely on Your Word, obey Your voice, and rest in Your promises. I choose faith over fear today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Encouragement
Living by faith is a daily journey, not a destination. Some days will be easy; others will stretch you, but God walks with you every step of the way.
“The righteous will live by faith.” — Romans 1:17
Choose faith today—and tomorrow—and watch how God leads you forward.
